May 17th: Prayer (Part 2)

Presence of heart in prayer (khushoo'):

How do we attain presence of heart in our prayer?
1) Realize that presence of heart is not just during prayer but it’s in everything we do, doing lots of thikr helps us achieve this realization.
2) remove the love of the world from your heart
3) Avoiding the haram outwardly and inwardly.
4) Don’t “jump” into prayer: focus your heart on Allah before saying Allahu akbar.

I really loved this topic, it helped me so much in developing my khushu'...as for future topics, i like the simple ones like prayer, but maybe if we study some parables in the Qur'an, it'll attract us to read it more, study it, etc. Or even if we refresh our minds about the simple things we can do to always be in remembrance of Allah swt, like all the little du'as we can make, or the different dhikrs. OH I just read in Purification of the Heart that given salawat on the Prophet (S) once gives you 10 hasanat, and saying it 10 times gives you 100 hasanat. How cool is that?!! Maybe something like that for a halaqah? I love you Dana!!

as-salaamu alaikum. When you were talking about Istikharah at our last halaqah I remembered a few duas from my book called Radiant Prayers. Basically these prayers are to be recited "in the event that there be no time to make a regular Prayer of Istikharah, or a quick decision has to be made, then, one should engage in an abundant recitation of the prayers given below:

1- Allaahumma khirlee wakh tarlee (O Allah! (in Your mercy) You pick and determine (the right course for me).

2- Allaahumma ahdinee wa saddidnee wa qinee sharranafsee (O Allah! Guide me and make me do the right thing, and keep me safe from the evil of my self).

3- Allaahumma alhimnee rushdee wahzeem lee alaa rushdee amree (O Allah! Put in my heart what is good and right for me, and determine for me that which is good and right in my case).

Another easy reward thru prayer:

Shurooq is the time of sunrise, the time when the upper limb of the sun just starts to appear above the horizon. This marks the end time for Fajr (morning) prayer.
The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him) says: Whoever reads Fajr (for men, specifically in Jama'ah, for women at home, in Jama'ah, or wherever) and remembers Allah until sunrise (that is, reads Qur'an, memorizes surahs, etc), then prays two raka'as (units) of Shurooq (sunrise) he will get the reward of complete complete complete Hajj and Umrah (the word complete was emphasized three times by the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him).
